I have been chuckling lately about the Flat White phenomenon sweeping Starbucks and Costa Coffee shops up and down the country.
Having spent 5 years in Australia, the Flat White is nothing new to me. So I have found it hilarious that the coffee chains have developed such a huge marketing buzz around the Flat White as a new wonder.
Costa Coffee has seen a 10% rise in its sales since it introduced the Flat White. Now it’s so popular it seems odd that with all the Antipoedeans over here that it’s taken so long to become mainstream.
I spoke to a friend in Sydney the other day who used to live in London and she was astounded that her favourite coffee was so huge over here.
Despite all the high street hype, my coffee snobbery I developed in Australia means I always favour the independents. My favourite spots for a true Flat White are the appropriately named Flat White in Soho and Grind Coffee Bar in Putney.
